Tesoro Elementary Evacuated Due to Gas Leak

[KHTS] – Tesoro del Valle Elementary School in Saugus was evacuated Thursday morning after a custodian detected a gas leak outside one of the classrooms.

All students were immediately evacuated from their classrooms following emergency evacuation procedures after a custodian detected a natural gas leak outside one of the portable classrooms, according to a Saugus Union School District news release. The leak was reported around 9:25 a.m.

Los Angeles County Fire Department and Gas Company officials were dispatched and responded to the school.

The gas leak was quickly isolated and the natural gas line was able to be shut off affecting just one classroom on the Tesoro del Valle campus, according to the news release. Once cleared 9:45 a.m. the students were returned to their classroom and the students in the one affected classroom were relocated to an unoccupied room on the campus.

All students are safe and parents received a phone call and an email message regarding the situation, according to the news release. Officials determined the leak was caused by a rusted natural gas pipe and will repair it as soon as possible.

Tesoro del Valle classes and schedules have not been changed.

    Luckily we were all safe. In my 23 years of teaching never had an evacuation. Great seeing you so much today Michelle.
