At the conclusion of the fall sports season, The Master’s College Mustangs rank seventh in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, the list of the nation’s best NAIA athletic programs.
The Mustangs accumulated 191 points on the strength of placing fifth in volleyball and 14th in women’s cross country. The men’s cross country team finished its campaign as the 15th ranked team, while women’s soccer ended the year tabbed as the 17th ranked squad.
The current ranking surpasses the Mustangs’ previous high of 22nd which occurred in the final fall ranking of 2012.
Notably, three other Golden State Athletic Conference institutions are positioned near the top 10, with Concordia (third), Biola (eighth) and Westmont (11th), supporting the notion that the GSAC is among the premier conferences in the NAIA.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 12 sports — six women’s and six men’s.
Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA’s website at www.directorscup.org. In addition, please visit www.thedirectorscup.com, like us on Facebook at facebook.com/lsdirectorscup or follow us on Twitter @lsdirectorscup.
The vision of Mustang Athletics is to support the mission of the College by investing in a tradition of quality athletics while guiding students to be stewards of the opportunity to excel academically and spiritually as a follower of Christ.
