SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – On top of improving its 2015-16 record to 16-2 (7-0 GSAC) after soundly beating William Jessup University 79-58 Thursday evening on Bross Court, The Master’s College women’s basketball team had another reason to celebrate.
Eighth-year head coach Dan Waldeck earned his 150th career win.
“Wins are a testament to the player’s ability to focus night in and night out,” humbly remarked Waldeck. “Honestly, the only thing we are concerned with here is giving our best for the Lord. If that results in wins…great! If that results in losses…we still praise the Lord for His goodness in growing the individuals in our program into His likeness.”
Currently, Waldeck’s overall win-loss record at TMC sits at 150-85.
The 15th-ranked Lady Mustangs’ 13th-straight win played out like many of their other games this season as TMC never once let the Warriors take a lead.
After outscoring WJU through all four quarters (25-11, 20-17, 15-12, 19-18), three Lady Mustangs finished the night by scoring in double figures: Megan Lindsley (21), Bianca Cubello (19), and Ashley Bartow (12).
Notably, TMC’s Chayan Lowery matched her career-high rebound tally after yanking down 14 caroms.
Collectively, the Lady Mustangs went 29-63 (46%) from the field, 11-27 (40%) on three-pointers, and 10-12 (83%) on free throws. TMC also amassed 38 rebounds, 19 assists, and 10 blocks.
“I’m definitely pleased with the way we shared the ball and rebounded tonight,” further assessed Waldeck. “I think we are continuing to improve in both our execution and mental fortitude. Lord willing, we will keep playing with focus, urgency, and togetherness…. and if we do, I believe we’ll continue to see positive results.”
Continuing their string of five home games, the Lady Mustangs, who sit in first place in the GSAC, will welcome conference opponent Menlo College to Bross Court on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tilt. The last time the two teams met was on December 10, when TMC took down the Oaks with a 90-70 win in Atherton.
