[KHTS] – A Newhall man who allegedly led Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies on a manhunt leading to an hourslong standoff Monday night pleaded not guilty Wednesday to eight felony charges.

Jesse Tucker, 30, of Newhall, was charged with: one count of assault upon an peace officer or firefighter; one count of resisting executive officer; one count of grand theft auto with prior; one count of kidnapping; one count of criminal threats; one count of possessing a controlled substance; one count of possessing a smoking device; and one count of driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, according to a complaint filed with the District Attorney’s office.

He is expected to appear back in court Feb. 13.

Deputies began searching for Tucker Monday around 8:46 a.m. after he allegedly stole a white F-150 truck from gardeners in Stevenson Ranch.

Tucker was trying to sell the stolen gardening equipment when a deputy spotted him in Newhall, witnesses said.

While deputies were trying to detain Tucker for questioning regarding the alleged car theft, he tried to run over a deputy, according to officials. The deputy then fired a round at the truck.

The truck was recovered after Tucker fled on foot.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help and McGrath schools were temporarily on lockdown as a precautionary measure, officials said.

K9 and helicopter units were called to the search.

If convicted of all charges, he faces a possible maximum sentence of more than 14 years in state prison.

Tucker has previously been convicted of vandalism, narcotics possession, illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, grand theft auto, felony theft, driving without a license and evading arrest, according to court records.
