[KHTS] – Twisted Colossus, Six Flags Magic Mountain’s newest ride, is set to open this May in Santa Clarita and construction crews are about to complete the testing of the ride.
Twisted Colossus is expected to open to the public May 23, officials said Wednesday. The ride will have four trains total and the
orange-colored train ran for the first time Tuesday night.
“Last night, we dropped the first train, it was very exciting for us,” said SFMM Spokeswoman Sue Carpenter, during a press tour Wednesday. “The first train did go around twice last night. There are so many things going on, it’s really exciting.”
The ride is about 85-90 percent complete, said Tim Dofflow, maintenance director.
“Now we’re into the testing phase,” said Bruce Thompson, construction manager. “We’ll start the testing every night. We’ll work on the track, the structure, painting every day.”
Twisted Colossus, the next generation of the beloved wooden roller coaster that thrilled millions of guests in its 36-year reign at the park, will be a unique technological marvel combining an iconic wooden structure with state-of-the-art iron horse track, according to the news release. The advanced technology, available exclusively at Six Flags, provides ride experiences never before possible on wooden coaster, such as over-banked turns and inversions.Twisted Colossus will feature numerous exciting components including a “Top Gun Stall”, a “High-Five” element, and a zero G roll.

A total of 24 people can ride in each trains and three trains can be running at once. One train will be set aside for rehabilitation, Thompson said in a previous interview. Each train will be a different color — orange, purple, blue and green.
More than 50 people are working on the whole project, Carpenter said. More than half of those are with the Rocky Mountain Construction, who are building Twisted Colossus.
The original Colossus wooden coaster opened June 29, 1978 and was closed Aug. 17 of last year.
In addition to revamping Colossus, Magic Mountain officials are turning the whole area into the “Steampunk District.”
“It’s where wood meets steel,” said Debbie Erickson, director of marketing. “which has kind of been our theme.”
Scream! is getting a new paint job, while Magic Moments Theater will be transformed into Gearworks Theater and one building will be turned into Twisted ‘Wiches, a gourmet sandwich shop.
Scream! is being hand-painted orange and blue.
“The ride is going to be awesome first off,” Dofflow said. “Since we made our first drop yesterday, it is extremely quiet, smooth and looks really, really cool.”

it is now – those pics were taken a week ago before the put on all the track connectors. they wouldn’t be test running it if it wasnt 100% ready. all they have to do is fininsh re-painting and clean up

That’s great that they are opening another ride, but why don’t they take that money and clean up that park redo all the bathrooms, bring back spillikins corner and make the place look aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
