FORT WORTH, Texas – Senior Jonathan Garrick is one of 25 golfers who have been named to The Ben Hogan Award watch list. The most prestigious award in men’s college golf, The Ben Hogan Award is issued annually to the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the past 12-month period.
The list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on the watch list, will be unveiled on Wednesday, April 13. On Tuesday, May 3, that group will be pared down to three. The winner will be crowned on Monday, May 23 prior to the start of the PGA TOUR’s Colonial National Invitation Tournament.
Garrick is looking to become the second Bruin to win The Hogan Award after Patrick Cantlay won the honor in 2012.
Garrick recently posted his fourth Top 10 of the season at last weekend’s Amer Ari Invitational. He finished tied for fifth at 9-under (207). The senior has led the Bruins in scoring in all five tournaments this season. Garrick won his second career tournament last October at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate when he shot a 10-under (206), which included rounds of 68-69-69. To his credit this season, he also has a fourth-place finish at the Gifford Collegiate (-3, 210) and a T-6 at the Northern Intercollegiate (+2, 218).
Next up for Garrick is a trip to the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase on Monday at Riviera Country Club. He will tee it up with 13 fellow collegiate golfers, with the low medalist earning a spot in next week’s Northern Trust Open. You will be able to follow along with Garrick during his round on the UCLA men’s golf and Northern Trust Open Twitter accounts.
