[KHTS] – Prosecutors are charging a Santa Clarita Valley teen with four counts in connection with an alleged assault outside West Ranch High School last month.
A 17-year-old student denied the charges in juvenile court, which is essentially a not-guilty plea, according to a District Attorney’s Office spokesman.
The teen — whose identity is not being released because he’s a minor — is accused of two felonies, “assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury” and “driving or taking a vehicle without consent,” and two misdemeanors.
The lesser charges are reckless driving and hit and run driving resulting in property damage.
The attack reportedly occurred around 9 a.m. April 24, when a student allegedly took a car without permission, assaulted a woman by beating her with his textbooks and then drove away, “dragging an occupant of the vehicle approximately 30 feet, as she attempted to exit,” according to Sheriff’s Department records.
The occupant of the vehicle struck her head when she fell while exiting the vehicle. The female victim sustained a laceration above her eye.
The juvenile was detained and transported to a juvenile detention center by responding deputy personnel.
The attack happened just outside West Ranch High School on a Friday, according to Sheriff’s Department records.
The teen suspect is due back in court May 19.
