[KHTS] – The National Weather Service has issued a wind and frost advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley throughout the weekend.

The wind advisory began at 9 a.m. Saturday with high winds expected to continue through 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. A frost advisory issued Saturday afternoon will be in effect from midnight Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday.

NWS officials are anticipating hazardous weather conditions to continue throughout Southwestern California over the next seven days.

Wind, Frost Advisory in Santa Clarita

Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected to continue throughout the afternoon as a result of moderate offshore flow, affecting the Santa Clarita Valley as well as the Ventura County Coastal and San Fernando Valleys, according to a wind advisory issued by NWS.

Advisory level winds are expected to impact travel on local area roadways, including the I-5 and SR-14 freeways, NWS officials said.

Decreasing winds Saturday night are expected to lead to colder overnight lows in many areas with valleys and the central coast, with temperatures dropping into the mid 30s.

NWS officials are encouraging drivers to use extra caution Saturday and to be prepared for sudden, gusty crosswinds.

Sub-freezing temperatures can harm pets and damage sensitive plants, so NWS officials are also encouraging residents to bring pets indoors and take the appropriate measures to protect sensitive outdoor plants.

Hazardous Weather in Southwestern California

Hazardous weather conditions throughout Southwestern California are expected to continue over the next seven days with the greatest impact along the coast, according to NWS officials.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by NWS officials at 6 a.m. Saturday stated many wind-sheltered areas in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties will experience freeze or hard freeze conditions Saturday night through Sunday morning.

“A very cold and dynamic upper low will move closer to Southern California by Tuesday of next week,” stated the outlook.

NWS officials are predicting very cool temperatures with a chance of showers and low snow levels throughout Southern California on Tuesday and Wednesday.
