Brent Darrin Zubek
Prosecutors charged Brent Darrin Zubek with two counts of murder Wednesday for the deaths of a couple in Chatsworth.
Zubek, an auto mechanic who previously lived in Valencia and Canyon Country, was arrested Aug. 22 in Encino following a shoot-out with Los Angeles police officers.
Zubek, 43, is accused of killing Lassen Street residents John David Lee, 40, and Oletta Jean Williams, 28. Their decomposed bodies were discovered Aug. 12, five or six weeks after they were left for dead in a dumpster outside their home.
In addition to the murder charges, Zubek is scheduled to be arraigned today in San Fernando Superior Court on six counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, and one count of carrying a loaded and stolen firearm. An original complaint filed Aug. 24 charged him with illegally discharging a weapon.
Prosecutors have not yet decided whether they’ll seek the death penalty, according to a statement from District Attorney Steve Cooley’s office. Zubek is being held without bail.
Public records show several Santa Clarita addresses for Zubek, who lived in the Shadow Pines area of Canyon Country in 1993 when he went to prison for a string of bank robberies in Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

I was very close with the victims in this case and should they find this man guilty of this horrible, ugly crime-I HOPE HE GETS TO FEEL THE SAME WAY HE MADE MY FRIENDS FEEL BEFORE HE TOOK THEIR LIFE AS IF HE WERE GOD .IF he did this this -he should rot in hell. John and Oletta were good decent people and are missed by all that knew them. It was truely an HONOR to have been a part of their lives. **RIP -John and Oletta-all ways and always-wait for and keep your love watching the family and other friends that have to be without you now and we well see you when God calls us home.xo
I remember this guy from his bank robbing days in SD, he was dangerous then, why the hell was he ever let out again? Oh looky he ended up squatting and burning down someone elses home, and murdering two co-squatters he was using drugs with, what a surprise. Now he’s costing the taxpayers even more money. Hopefully they lock him up for life and we can cut out losses from this socially maladaptive freeloading good for nothing POS. He should never have been let out of prison the first time. Let’s not make the same mistake again. He’s not worth a death penalty case and the cost, lock him up and lose the key.
