Two men sought in connection with an armed robbery Friday night in Santa Clarita have been apprehended at a motel in the Hyde Park district of Los Angeles.

The men, described as black males, one of whom was wearing an “NY” baseball cap and the other with a brown shirt and a Cookie Monster hat, reportedly entered the AT&T store at Bouquet and Newhall Ranch roads at 8:42 p.m. Armed with handguns, they allegedly stole thousands of dollars’ worth of cell phones and iPads.

They also reportedly stole the entire computer tower that housed the store’s surveillance video.

The suspects fled in a Chevrolet Malibu that had been reported stolen Thursday. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Deputies recovered the car shortly after the robbery in front of the Hyatt Regency Valencia hotel on McBean Parkway.

Persons matching the suspects’ descriptions were seen entering the Valencia hotel. About two dozen heavily armed deputies conducted a floor-to-floor search.

While the search was under way, one of the stolen AT&T devices, which was equipped with GPS, pinged from a location in Los Angeles.

Sheriff’s deputies determined the location was in the 6300 block of Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles and immediately coordinated their investigation with the LAPD.

LAPD officers and deputies from the sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau and Crenshaw Station descended on the Hyde Park Motel and saw persons matching the wanted men’s descriptions acting suspiciously in one of the motel rooms.

The suspects were ordered to come out of the room and they complied. One was still wearing an “NY” cap.

At 10:45 p.m., SCV Sheriff’s deputies were en route to the Los Angeles location with witnesses from the AT&T store for the purpose of confirming the suspects’ identities.
