Golden State Hospital

valenciavikingslogoThe Valencia boys basketball team beat Chatsworth 58-46 in a game at College of the Canyons. Angel Cardenas scored 18 points and Garrett Mike added 10 for Valencia.

The Vikings won their 12th game of the season. They open Foothill League play against Saugus on Tuesday.

The Canyon boys lost to Hoover from San Diego, 78-55, in a game at COC.

The West Ranch boys basketball team lost to Village Christian, 56-54, on a last-second 3-pointer by Bryan Alberts.

Village Christian, the reigning CIF State Division V champions, were down by a point with five seconds to play. Kevin Harris gave the Wildcats the lead with a 3-pointer before Alberts won the game for Village Christian.

Harris led West Ranch with 15 points.

West Ranch plays undefeated Hart at 16-0 in the Foothill League opener for both teams on Tuesday night.

The Canyon girls beat Monroe, 53-45, in the San Fernando Valley Showcase at El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills. Alia McCoy scored 23 points to lead Canyon.

In high school soccer, the West Ranch boys beat Canoga Park, 3-2, in the third-place game of the Silver Division at the LA Valley Invitational at Chavez High School.

Rhys Wheatley scored two goals and Brandon Crowder scored once for West Ranch.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women improved to 13-0 with a 96-62 win over Simpson. Kimmie Iverson scored 18 and made six 3-pointers to lead The Master’s College, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA.

The Master’s College men lost to 15th ranked Cal State San Marcos, 74-64.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the visiting Denver Nuggets, 112-105, at Staples Center.

It looks like there will be an NHL season after all. The NHL owners and the players association agreed to a new 10-year deal that ends a 113-day lockout.

Details of the agreement have yet to be released, but reports indicate that there will be at least a 48-game schedule and the season could start on Jan. 19.

The Kings will finally be able to hoist their first Stanley Cup championship banner in Staples Center.

But it’s not all good news for the Kings. Forward Anze Kopitar reportedly injured his knee while playing for a team in Sweden according to a report by ESPN.

He is expected to miss at least three weeks recovering from the injury.
