The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team finished the season ranked No. 6 in the national rankings, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Though the rankings have no bearing on regular and post-season play, the poll does deem a national champion at the end of the season – this year, Cerritos College was named the national champion.
The Cougars completed the season with an 18-1-4 record and earned the program’s fifth Western State Conference Championship and first since the 2004 season.
COC’s post-season run was stopped short in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Associations Regional Playoffs, as the team fell to Ventura College, 1-0.
COC made its first appearance on the national poll under fourth-year head coach Justin Lundin. Canyons appeared as high as the No. 3 team in the nation in early November.
Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Kansas, the NSCAA has grown into the world’s largest soccer coaches’ organization, serving members at every level of the game.
