Snapshot for 01/21/2013 through 01/27/2013

Feb. 3 is Super Bowl Sunday. The Super Bowl is one of America’s most anticipated and watched sporting events of the year. The celebration can quickly turn to tragedy when party goers exercise poor judgment and fail to designate a non-drinking driver. Remember to drive sober or choose an alternate ride home.

This week Newhall had nine reported Part-1 crimes. Newhall saw one shoplifting incident, one theft from an unlocked vehicle, two commercial burglaries, three petty thefts, one residential burglary, and one vehicle burglary.

A 12th grade high school student reported that on Tuesday, 01/22/2013, between 6:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. she parked and left her vehicle unlocked in the area of 24800 Newhall Avenue. U.S. currency was reportedly stolen from inside the vehicle (ref -01015).

Deputies arrested Mario Daniels, a 44 year old Hispanic male, for commercial burglary on Tuesday, 01/22/2013. Daniels is on parole under the early release AB-109 program. At approximately 6:00 p.m., Mr. Daniels is alleged to have made his way to the roof of a building located in the 23700 block of Lyons Avenue. It appeared Mr. Daniels was after copper pipes in the building. Mr. Daniels was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station (ref – 01038).

On Tuesday, 01/22/2013, at approximately 3:30 p.m. deputies detained a 23 year-old male in the area of Chestnut Street and 15th Street in Newhall. After an investigation the suspect was arrested for possession of heroin (ref -01024).

On Monday, 01/21/2013, at approximately 6:15 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of 5th Street and Newhall Avenue. After an investigation deputies recovered approximately 1.1 pounds of cocaine and over two thousand dollars in U.S. currency. Two suspects were arrested and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for possession and transportation of a controlled substance (ref -00984).

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns regarding Newhall.
