trinityknightslogoThe Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team won its first-round game in the CIF State Southern California Regional playoffs. Trinity beat Tranquility, 63-49, and will move on in the Division 5 regional.

The Knights, the No. 9 seed in the playoffs, led by 10 points at halftime, 33-23, and were up by 26 points in the third quarter.

Spencer Klehn led Trinity in scoring with 17 points.

Trinity plays Horizon Christian, the Division 5 champion of the San Diego Section and the top seed in the Southern California regional, on Saturday.

It’s March Madness time for The Master’s College women’s basketball team.

The Master’s College opens against Carroll from Montana in the first round of the NAIA women’s basketball national tournament. The tournament begins March 13 in Frankfort, Ky.

The Lady Mustangs are one of the 32 teams in the NAIA Division I basketball tournament. The Master’s College women are ranked No. 10 in the NAIA and are making their first trip to the NAIA tournament since 2008.

In high school volleyball, the Golden Valley boys were swept in three games in a match against Eastside from Lancaster.

In high school golf, the West Ranch boys won a match by eight strokes against Oak Park at Robinson Ranch. Joey Downey shot a 1-under 58 and had three birdies in 15 holes.

In the NBA, the Lakers rallied to beat the New Orleans Hornets, 108-102, erasing a 25-point deficit.

The Lakers outscored the Hornets, 20-0, to end the game. Kobe Bryant scored 42 points and had 12 assists. More importantly, the Lakers gained a game on the Utah Jazz for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Lakers trail the Jazz by 1 ½ games for the eighth playoff spot in the West.

In spring training, the Dodgers were shut out by the Indians, 4-0. Hyun-Jin Ryu, the Dodgers prized pitching prospect from Korea, gave up two runs on three hits in three innings.

In the NHL, the Kings are home for a game against the Dallas Stars tonight. The Kings are coming off a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Listen to the game between the Kings and the Stars tonight on AM 1220, KHTS. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
