Business leaders, community members and parents are invited to spend the morning shadowing a local public school principal or district administrator by registering for the upcoming Principal for a Day event, sponsored annually by the SCV Education Foundation. This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, Feb 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The day kicks-off with each participant spending a couple of hours with their chosen principal or district leader, followed by a catered luncheon with all principals, district administrators, and sponsors attending.
Beyond the Classroom and into the Workforce: A look at the new Common Core is the planned topic, presented by a local educator with all five district superintendents in panel format. The luncheon will be held at the Santa Clarita Activities Center.
Event sponsorships, for this 22nd annual event, include tickets to the luncheon, a program ad and other recognition, are also available for companies wishing to support Student Enrichment Awards for teachers, student scholarships and other educational outreach programs produced by the SCV Education Foundation. Supporters that can’t attend the event, but want to show their support and encouragement to our future teachers, can sponsor a future educator from the College of the Canyons TEACH program to take their place. Future educator sponsors will be recognized in the event program.
Registrants have the best chance of being matched with their first or second choice by registering as soon as possible. Visit www.scveducationfoundation.org, and click on the Principal for a Day link, for registration forms and sponsorship information.
The tax-deductible donation to participate ranges from $150 for an elementary, junior high or middle school principal to $450 for a superintendent, with $200, $300 and $350 levels for administrators at other levels.
All five local school districts are involved in this event, including: Hart School District, Castaic, Saugus, Newhall and Sulphur Springs Districts. Principals and district administrators enjoy the opportunity to provide participants with a first-hand perspective of the local public school educational environment. The SCV Education Foundation is looking forward to every school in all five districts having at least one participant shadowing each principal this year.
The SCV Education Foundation was founded in 1995 to foster relationships between businesses, schools, educators and youth, to enrich education and promote appreciation for public school education in the Santa Clarita Valley. Other annual programs include a Student Enrichment program, directed to teachers for use in the classroom, Teacher Tribute, Read with Me, scholarships to graduating high school students and Santa Clarita’s Literacy & Arts Festival.
