2001 - LASD Deputy Hagop "Jake" Kuredjian gunned down in Stevenson Ranch while backing up ATF [story]
Jake Kuredjian

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is holding two public hearings this week to receive public comments on the proposed regulations related to the implementation of AB 60, the state law that directs DMV to issue driver licenses to undocumented California residents.

“With these hearings DMV is taking another step towards making the roads safer for all Californians by identifying the documents that will be accepted as proof of identity and residency by those who will benefit from AB 60 and will obtain a California driver license,” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto.

dmv_newsAssembly Bill AB 60 (Chapter 524: Statutes of 2013) requires the department to issue an original driver license to an applicant who is unable to submit satisfactory proof of legal presence in the United States. Driver license applicants under AB 60 must meet all other qualifications for licensure and must provide satisfactory proof of identity and California residency.

AB 60 also requires the department to develop regulations and consult with interested parties in an effort to assist the department in identifying documents that will be acceptable for the purposes of providing documentation to establish identity and residency.

On May 9, 2014, the first proposed set of regulations for AB 60 was published by the Office of Administrative Law (OAL). The publishing of the regulations started a 45-day public comment period, which will end on Monday, June 23, 2014. The proposed regulations and current examples of accepted documents are available in several languages in the DMV web page at http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/ab60/index.html

The two upcoming public hearings will provide another opportunity to comment on the proposed regulations. Anyone interested in providing a comment will be asked to register and wait for his/her name to be called.

After the two public hearings, consideration of the public comment and any necessary revisions, DMV will deliver final regulations to OAL for review and approval. AB 60 requires the DMV to begin issuing licenses to undocumented applicants, no later than January 1, 2015.

What part of ILLEGAL do they not understand?

  2. They didn’t follow the law to get into this country why in the world would any intelligent person give them permission to drive with or without a license? Do you really think they’ll get insurance too once they have a license? THEY ARE HERE ILLEGALLY!!! Take their finger prints, DNA and a picture then send them back to THEIR country.

    • Maria Diego says:

So you think you are intelligent? Get your things straight in your head not everyone is alike. You are an ignorant person. So your assuming that everyone that came illegally here doesn’t do things the right way? Are you dumb. Ok yes they might not have there license but that doesn’t mean they don’t have insurance. For one thing it is good that they have a license you know why? Have you ever thought if they do get there license they would have to read over the book? If this happened then do you think they would know the rules? Well no right because you don’t think

    • Maria Diego says:

Oh and another thing they also help the economy. Oh wait they do why because they are humans right? So does that that mean they buy things? Oh yeah they do buy things. Isn’t this a shocker they help money circulate and help the economy. Oh how do they get money oh yeah they work???

    • Maria Diego says:

Oh yeah I forgot to say this I think I am pretty intelligent for my age you know why. All my life I have taken AP and honor classes and during high school I took college courses and another shocker is that I got placed straight into college courses. Wait I forgot that you said an unintelligent person would give illegals license. Wait so then you are calling me unintelligent right? Haha

  3. Ryan Orona they must of passed the law for a reason….

  4. Hear this at your hearing, no licenses for people that are here without a visa, and if they had one and just stayed here when it ended. NO LICENSE

  5. This is what happens when you out a bunch of liberals in office.

  6. Ala Timeline says:

hey dumb dumbs, this hearing is about how to do it; not if they should do it. if i’m sharing the road with these people, i’d rather that they have some sort of license so i know they know the basic laws of the road instead of going by ‘jesus take the wheel’

  7. King Chito says:

Illegal aliens also means British frech and other non us resident not just Mexican

  8. License…insurance…registration…for everybody…

  9. This country was mexico and was bellow to cheroke people how ever know some of history you guys push out this people and now we are claim for it went you guy make one kid mexican chinese Japanese argentina and everyone else make 3

  11. Robert gardner says:

You no speech guy inglishness. Goo hoomie.

  12. “life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or circumstances of birth” land of opportunity. Your great great great great great great great (x10) parents are familiar with this. Don’t forget when you came from.

  13. Andrea Lara says:

It’s good if they do, they’re here anyways might as well have their info if they hit your car, have them take responsibility if it’s their fault.

  14. We give them welfare and food stamps but everyone seems to be up in arms over giving them a drivers license? Smh, makes no sense.

  15. Amazed we are giving them licenses. The pro illegal group wants no distinction licenses. Really? What is wrong with this damn state ?

  16. Stefano it doesn’t mater how we came anyone can have papers lol even if we are a illegal we can have pretty easy we came to this country we leer the league we work we study we live we buy cards we do anything we want and we are fukin illegal do you leer spanish or just closet your maid because you are Caucasian who is better the person who is adapted to the situacion or you . have nice day

  17. Mike says:

Mr. Contreras, if you want to argue your point it helps to have some sort of grammar and literacy. Without it your point becomes irrelevant in the fact that not only do you come here and not respect our laws but you also don’t respect our language and culture. To enter a hot topic angry and using vulgar language is not how you debate, luckily for you this is California home of the criminals and liberals. By the way illegal aliens are criminals.

  18. I was so waiting for this racist comments… They’re people just like you and I.. They only mistake was to come to this country for a better life.

  19. Mike says:

Jorge Sandoval, My name is Mike Navarro so believe me when I say these comments do not come from racial bias. To point the finger at racism is just a scape goat and it will no longer work. A broken law is a broken law regardless of race, color or any other description you may identify with. There is no hate for these people, my family came for the same thing. Yet they did it legally, it was not easy and they did struggle but they did it. It is unfortunate that Mexico cannot provide for their people, but realistically we as Americans cannot financially provide for the world either.

  20. Mike says:

@Christine Rosas, to clear things up, we are definitely up in arms about those issues as well. To quote a few good men,”and the hits just keep coming.”

  21. Scott says:

Documents? How about the same documents that any legal resident of CA must produce to acquire a license. That sounds fair to me. Having a license does NOT mean they’ll get insurance or know how to drive. Half the people in this valley can barely handle a car as it is. And if they fail their tests, what is to stop them from continuing to drive? Same thing that’s stopping them now.

  22. John Gilbert says:

A friend married a woman in the Philippines, and moved there to live in get a Visa. I told them to fly to Mexico City, come across the border illegally, and she’ll get food stamps, Welfare, free medical in the Emergency Rooms, and now , a California Drivers License which she can legally fly anywhere in the US. All she has to do is not show up at the immigration hearing 3 years from now. No wonder Texas is trying to fly Illegal Aliens from there to California. And, we won’t even take care of the Veterans who fought for this country. SHAME…..!!!
