The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department swore in 81 recruits at a graduation on Friday morning at East Los Angeles Community College.
The class was comprised of 56 male deputy recruits, 15 female deputy recruits and 10 male recruits from participating agencies. The recruits took the Oath of Office during the ceremony held Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, and transitioned their status into peace officers.
Sheriff Jim McDonnell was joined by Police Chiefs from El Segundo, Inglewood, Los Angeles School, and Signal Hill Police Departments. Chief Michael Langston of Signal Hill Police Department was the keynote speaker and delivered inspirational remarks to the graduates and their guests.
After receiving their certificates, the graduates were officially sworn in as peace officers by Sheriff Jim McDonnell, who applauded their decision to become peace officers, and reminded them of the responsibility, accountability and challenge they assumed in taking their new charge.
He also thanked the family members and friends who support them daily, and who will come to know some of the peripheral challenges of being a law enforcement professional.
