The New Mexican
This month’s Thursdays@Newhall series kicks off with 10 by 10 on Thursday, Sept. 1. The entertaining variety show is free and features 10-minute performances from 10 different performers at the Repertory East Playhouse, located at 24266 Main Street from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The New Mexican will start the night playing a variety of feet-handling percussion instruments, slide guitar with his left hand and a lead guitar and banjo with his right hand.
Diani and Devine, aka Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine, will follow this unique music performance with their award-winning comedy act.
We follow comedy with live music by GRIT, spoken word poetry from members of the Golden Pen Writer’s Guild and magic from Scott Marshall. Scott is a returning 10 by 10 performer, who has performed at private and public shows across the country, including the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
The night will continue with more comedy with stand-up and improv master Mike Citera. Mike has performed at clubs throughout New York City and Los Angeles, including The Improv, Laugh Factory and Caroline’s.
Consomme will break up the laughs as a dark award-winning short film. The film has been featured at the prestigious Werner Herzog film program in Germany, as well as at Night Hawk Cinema, the Bushwick Film Festival, the Annapolis Film Festival, Little Rock Film Festival and the Winter Film Awards. Written, directed and produced by Catherine Fordham, Consomme will be available soon on Showtime’s streaming horror site, Shudder. Following Consomme, The Brother Monkeys, comprised of real life brothers John Scalia Jr. and Jameson Scalia, will take the night back to comedy.
The evening will wrap up with storytelling and poetry by Victoria Sayeg and music by Nick Goodman. Victoria is a freelance writer, poet, director and producer from Los Angeles. Sayeg’s short story “Itch” was exhibited at Art on the Boulevard in Fort Worth, Texas, during their annual “Art and Words” exhibit, where she was asked to read the piece during the opening night gala.
