The City of Santa Clarita invites community members to enjoy a free, live musical show as the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express makes its stop at the Jan Heidt Newhall Metrolink Station on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Metrolink Holiday Toy Express is a 450-ton train decorated with animated displays and twinkling lights and includes a musical performance, Santa Claus and friends. In anticipation of the train’s arrival at the Newhall Metrolink, carolers from the Canyon Theatre Guild and special guests of the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will treat the crowd to festive holiday music. The Old Town Newhall Association will provide complimentary hot chocolate, candy canes and cookies. Additionally, Railroad Cafe will host a holiday boutique fundraiser from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00p.m. benefitting the Castaic Animal Shelter.

“The Metrolink Holiday Toy Express is a community-based holiday experience to enjoy with your friends and family,” said Mayor Marsha McLean. “Decorated with holiday displays and 50,000 twinkling lights, the train is magical for kids and a great way for residents to get in the holiday spirit and support local families in need.”

Community members are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Southern California Firefighters’ Spark of Love Toy Drive, which distributes toys in our community to families who may not be able to provide gifts this holiday season. Following the show, children of all ages have an opportunity to meet Santa Claus and his friends.

The Metrolink Holiday Toy Express travels from city to city to entertain families and help collect toys for the less fortunate. This year, the 32-city tour passes through six counties including San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

The Metrolink Holiday Toy Express helps firefighters collect approximately 100,000 toys annually for the ABC7/Spark of Love Toy Drive.
