1863 - Gen. Edward F. Beale loans money to A.A. Hudson and Oliver P. Robbins to erect toll house in Newhall Pass [story]

pulskamproastart[SDFHC] – Elks Roast Master of Ceremonies and Founder, Mayor Bob Kellar, announced that he finally succeeded in roping the elusive, slippery, silver-tongued, and fast stepping Santa Clarita former City Manager, Ken Pulskamp to be the Roastee at the 15th Annual Elks Roast. The Roast is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, at the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge, located at 17766 Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.

Elks Roast Chairman, Mike Fisher, congratulated Kellar, noting that Pulskamp had eluded the roast at least two times previously. Santa Clarita City Manager, Ken Striplin, is one of this year’s roasters and served as assistant city manager under Pulskamp. Striplin was pleased to be asked by Kellar to join him on the stage. “Ha,” Striplin laughed, “I have been waiting years for this moment. I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed working at City Hall without Cowboy Pulskamp galloping around the halls. Boy, have I got the tales to tell!”

John Heys, last year’s Roastee also congratulated Kellar in lassoing Cowboy Ken, occasionally known as the White Tonto from his days playing sidekick to Lone Ranger Mayor Kellar.

Steve Arklin, another roaster, said “Pulskamp might just as well stay home that night for all the fun he will have but everyone else will have a great time!”

sdfhc_logo_fullThe illustrious Don Fleming will be there, laptops blazing, filled with ammunition of the moments Pulskamp never wants to remember. Fleming said “The night of March 23rd may well be remembered as the new Ides of March, as Pulskamp’s reputation will never be the same!”

You have to be there, because remember what happens at the Roast…stays at the Roast.

The evening will include a live auction featuring the perennial best seller, the Elks BBQ, with their famous tri-tip, chicken and beans. Other items include a Lake Naciamento vacation and a visit to the set of Entertainment Tonight, and other all time auction favorites.

Tables are available for $2500, $2000, and $1500. Contact Donna Schmidt at 661-252-8424 for reservations and information, or visit sdfhc.org and click on the 2013 Elks Roast Form.
