[KHTS] – Local parents and children will have the opportunity to experience all things scouting and decide if a Girl or Boy Scout troop is right for them at the Bill Hart District’s third Annual Scout Expo on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saugus Swap Meet (Saugus Speedway).
There are approximately 100 Boy and Girl Scout troops in the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas, according to a video on the Scout Expo website. Each will have a booth at the event showcasing what they offer.
Parents will learn about the various scouting programs, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Children can participate in a number of hands-on, scout-related activities, such as crafts, first aid, games, egg drop contest, obstacle course and cooking demonstrations.
Bill Hart District staff hope that the expo will show parents how “scouting can make a world of difference in your childs life,” according to the website.
This is also the first year that Girl Scout troops will be participating in the Expo.
Scout ExpoDarrin Puerto, Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack #538 in Castaic said that scouting is a way to bring boys back to the way that their peers were taught years ago, before “the age of technology.”
The skills they are taught in scouting help prepare them for life, Puerto said.
The event is free and open to the public.
