[KHTS] – More than six weeks after Valencia High baseball head coach Jared Snyder took a leave of absence after accusations of financial impropriety were made against him, the Hart district is still conducting an audit to assess the situation, according to law enforcement officials.
A preliminary report indicated there could be some financial impropriety, according to a Hart district source close to the situation, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to discuss the matter with the media.
However, there’s a difference between an unethical use of funds and a violation of law, said Sgt. Dave Chambers of the Sheriff’s Department’s Fraud and Cyber Crimes Bureau.
“Ethical violations are not necessarily criminal violations,” Chambers said, noting a more thorough audit of the situation is currently under way by school officials, as a follow up to the initial allegations made public by parents back in March.
Snyder did not return a message left Friday.
“The school district is going to let us know when and if they have something that is criminal,” Chambers said. “If it does turn into a criminal (case), and it very well could be, then we will look into it.”
Hart district officials said Snyder is still on a leave of absence, and “the district is still actively investigating.”
“Sometimes these things take a month, sometimes they take three months,” Chambers said of the audit. “(Hart district officials) are not going to dawdle.”
Michael Killinger is assuming the Valencia High School head baseball coaching responsibilities in Snyder’s absence, according to officials.
FROM AN EARLIER STORY
Snyder has been with the school since 1998, according to Valencia High School’s website.
“Snyder, a Nichols State alumnus (1993), has built Valencia into one of the perennial powers in Southern California,” the site states. “He has taken probably one of the worst facilities in California and turned it into one of the top in the nation.”
Under his guidance, Valencia High has won eight Foothill League titles. In 2006, the Vikings set school records for both overall wins (25) and league wins (14).

Oh crazy,
When you leave on your own, just makes you look like you did something wrong.
Innocent until proven guilty I understand, however some of these baseball players should consider rallying together to possibly consider pursuing legal action. The “pay to play” program and unrecorded Diamond club funds is not only stealing money from families but these student athletes college funds as well. Just food for thought
Matt…agreed! And it’s not just the funds issue with Snider. He isn’t a “coach”. He’s a bully and verbally abused and mistreated these young boys. I have first hand knowledge of his program and I used to coach at the high school level. He shouldn’t be in a position that allows him to beat down the spirits of these kids….it’s shameful. The district needs to cut him loose and keep Killinger as he is obviously doing an outstanding job
He’s a bully as a teacher also! I tried to get my daughter transferred out of his class and all the school did was try to reassure me “he’s a really good guy”
He is a dick.
He is a shady Cat…. Sorry
He is a shady Cat…. Sorry
I had Snyder as a teacher years ago in high school and he was always a huge dick. He was rude, never inspiring or encouraging, and most of the time flat out mean. I’ll never forget the time a group of us students were walking to class in the morning in the rain and he was driving past us in his truck and purposely swerved INTO a huge, dirty puddle to splash everyone. He drove away laughing. I can’t believe they’ve kept him around this long. The alleged theft doesn’t surprise me a bit.
I played for Snyder, and he was a great coach. These kids are getting great exposure to colleges and scouts because of the work Snyder puts in. It apparently only takes one person to complain, probably because their kid didn’t “make it,” to ruin a name in this “small town” of ours. Maybe you should ask all the kids and their parents who played beyond high school, and see if they appreciated Coach Snyder
Kristy….spot on!!! Anybody who bullies these kids like he did doesn’t deserve to coach. First hand experience in the program…..he’s a self-centered, mind game playing, heartless bully!!!! The program was and always has been all about him, not the kids. Sorry CJ, you might be one of a few over the years that was blind to it all….not one person I know has any respect for Snyder. And let’s not even get into WHY it was allowed over all of these years….VHS Administration and Hart District officials swept it all under the carpet…..sad, sad system!!! Karma will find it’s way back!!
