2013 - Actor Paul Walker ("Fast & Furious" movies) dies in a fiery car crash in the Valencia Industrial Center. [story]
Paul Walker

chptrafficstopIn light of recent incidents where motorists within Los Angeles County have encountered individuals impersonating peace officers, the California Highway Patrol offers the following advice.

If you can determine that the vehicle behind you is displaying red lights and/or sounding a siren and is clearly marked as a police vehicle (i.e. black and white with identifying insignia on the driver and passenger door panels), do the following:

* Reduce you speed, pull to the right and stop in a safe location, and lower your window to listen to instructions.

* Turn on your emergency flashers and acknowledge that you see and will yield to the red light.

* If you observe two or more clearly marked police vehicles behind you with red lights operating, pull to the right and stop in a safe location.

If you can’t determine if the police vehicle is legitimate, do the following:

* Turn on your emergency flashers and acknowledge that you see and will yield to the red light.

* Continue driving at a reduced rate of speed until you can safely stop in a well-lighted, public location, preferably where other people are present.

* Stay in your vehicle and wait for the officer to approach your vehicle and issue additional instructions.

* If you are contacted by someone who you believe is impersonating an officer, request to see their identification/badge. You do not need to open your window to see a badge or ID. You should see a uniform, their duty belt and see and hear their police radio.

* Use common sense, if you’re suspicious call 9-1-1 on your cell phone to alert authorities.

While infrequent, there are legitimate traffic stops conducted by unmarked local, state, and or federal agencies. While these types of vehicles can vary in make/model, in many cases you would still see at least one solid red light, a siren as necessary, in addition to the law enforcement officer displaying distinctively marked clothing, a badge, or other credentials. Once the officer positively identifies his/her self, comply with their requests.

If you’ve been contacted or stopped recently by someone you suspect is impersonating a police officer, immediately contact your local Law Enforcement Agency to submit your tip.

(Just Posted this very same comment on the CHP alert page where the article was originally posted and their alert magically disappeared. Hmmm.. Posted the same comment on their Facebook page. Facts are Facts. The CHP can’t take publicizing their last yrs. power-plays that now oppose their later advice today. Their actions Didn’t make sense then. Don’t make sense now. Reign in their Power!) My wife was pulled over last yr by CHP in Glendale area at the start of N210 area with a safe shoulder to stop in twice the size of any lane . By BULL HORN, she was told to exit the fwy completely into unknown area. She was Very Uncomfortable having to exit the public domain for No Apparent Reason. Ridiculous Power play!!! Officer’s DEMANDS were Exactly the opposite of guidance given here in this article. It’s NO Wonder that crooks avail themselves of this very same power. CHP need to keep the safety of the public in mind & dowse the legend they are in their own mind.

The entire Alert disappeared. Not just my comment. Seems CHP alerts are only applicable one day at a time. Hmmmmmmm Try the Link- “This alert has been deactivated and is no longer available.”

  4. Young Park says:

Sorry, The link was posted in the Community Alert CHP sent via email yesterday. https://local.nixle.com/alert/5485181/?sub_id=1011454

The Alert has also been erased from the CHPSoutherndivision facebook page.

The Alert stated that drivers should “Continue driving at a reduced rate of speed until you can safely stop in a well-lighted, public location, preferably where other people are present.” Their outrageous demands last yr by Bull Horn run contrary to their advise given here. It’s NO Wonder they’ve erased the Alert. What is this George Orwell’s “1984”? Newspeak and Double Speak spoken here??! Ridiculous!!
Happy to forward their full email to you, as it seems to have inexplicably disappeared from the CHP website and its facebook page.

  5. Young Park says:

We’d be so happy if SCVNews would investigate the sudden deactivation of yesterday’s CHP Community Alert that was emailed to residents and reported here on the SCVNews website. Eager to hear CHP’s explanation and reasoning regarding the Alert’s mysterious deactivation on its own CHP website and on its CHPSoutherDivision facebook website.
