Yes, Antonovich is mayor of Los Angeles County, not Los Angeles city. Note that WE didn’t say anything; you’re reading a press release. HE said it. (And yes, about a dozen years ago the Board of Supervisors voted to authorize the title.)

Michael D. Antonovich is a Member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. He is not the Mayor of Los Angeles. That’s like me saying I’m the mayor of LA bcz my friends decided to call me that.
Mayor is just a title. It has no legal significance. The Board of Supervisors voted about a dozen years ago to authorize the board chairman (this year it’s Antonovich) to use the title of mayor. Regardless, to us he’ll always be King Michael.
