Representative Steve Knight, CA-25, spoke in support of the B-21 Raider program, a project that will be largely manufactured in Palmdale, before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense on Thursday.

Knight’s testimony highlighted the need to modernize U.S. national security strategy and address the evolving threats of the 21st century. He pointed out that most of the U.S. current fleet of long-range strike bombers are over 50 years old and cannot penetrate advanced defenses, while the new B-21 offers noteworthy technology and cost-efficiency advantages over older aircraft.

“The ability to project power anywhere in the world is a cornerstone of our national security strategy. For decades, our military has enjoyed this advantage,” Knight stated in his testimony. “However, as our potential adversaries rapidly improve their military forces, we must modernize our military technology to maintain our strength”

“As we rebuild our military, it is vitally important to modernize our critical aviation assets,” House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee Chairwoman Kay Granger said. “Congressman Knight is extremely knowledgeable about our long-range strike bombers and understands the strategic advantage of projecting strength to our adversaries. I appreciate his testimony today in support of the B-21 Raider program, which would ensure the United States maintains this crucial competitive edge.”

Knight is a longtime supporter of the B-21 program, which will bring thousands of jobs to the Antelope Valley and increase contracting opportunities for small businesses in Southern California. While serving in the California State Legislature he successfully advocated for tax credits to attract aerospace manufacturers to build the aircraft in California. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee he consistently supports legislation to move the program forward, and is a member of the Congressional Caucus on Long Range Strike.

“Moving forward with the B-21 program is a victory for the American people because it means that the United States will continue to produce high-quality aircraft that will give us an advantage in protecting our citizens and our way of life,” said Knight. “It is also a victory for our community because it will expand our aerospace manufacturing operations and bring thousands of quality jobs to our communities.”
