Ten years after forming a tribute to Sublime, one of Southern California’s most distinctive ska punk bands, 40 oz. to Freedom arrives in Santa Clarita as part of its anniversary tour at Concerts in the Park, presented by Logix Federal Credit Union.

The band will play a free show on Saturday, August 19, at 7 p.m. at Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus 91350.

Sublime burst onto the scene of Long Beach, California in 1988 with a unique sound that featured reggae, ska and hip hop.

Over the years, songs like “What I Got,” “Doin’ Time” and “Santeria” helped the band grow from having a grassroots following in California to a legion of fans worldwide.

40 oz. to Freedom is named after Sublime’s 1992 debut album and plays the greatest hits from the original’s repertoire.

The group was honored in 2010 with the San Diego Music Award for Best Tribute Band and has played venues in Canada and across the United States.

Lead singer and guitarist Dane Scott’s soulful delivery recreates the sound and energy of Sublime while Jeremy Miller on keyboard and Michael Hickman on bass churn out the riffs and melodies fans have loved for the past 25 years. Drummer Carlos Perez is a co-founder of 40 oz. to Freedom and pounds out the rhythm of Sublime hits that leave the audience wanting more.

Concerts in the Park is a series of free concerts put on by the city every Saturday night through August 26. The family-friendly atmosphere allows residents and visitors to sit back, relax and enjoy the music all summer long.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring beach chairs and blankets and food vendors will be on site selling a variety of concessions and snacks.

A free bicycle valet service is provided by the SCV Bicycle Coalition, allowing residents to bike to and from the concert and avoid the hassle of finding a place to park.
