A free panel discussion will provide information about the value of volunteers, and the breadth of ways to utilize them. Panelists will discuss the proper use of volunteers, and provide tips on how to develop meaningful experiences.
Maria Strmsek
Maria Strmsek has been the Volunteer Services Director at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital since 1991. Prior to that she was the Volunteer and Patient Relations Coordinator at Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center. The Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s program maintains approximately 300 adult, college and teen volunteers who are interviewed, oriented, and assigned in over 40 departments throughout the organization.
Tess Simgen
Tess Simgen is the Arts & Events Supervisor for the City of Santa Clarita’s Volunteer Engagement Program. She is responsible for recruiting and coordinating thousands of volunteers every year for the City’s special events, including the Marathon, Cowboy Festival, Earth Arbor Day, and River Rally, among others. Tess also oversees volunteer interns and ongoing volunteers to help with projects and programs at City Hall, the Community Centers, libraries, parks, trails, and open space.
Joey Weinert
Joey Weinert serves as the Midnight Mission’s Community Events Manager. Prior to becoming the events manager, Joey served as the event coordinator, where he facilitated visits by volunteer groups who shared their music and art talents with clients. Now, as the volunteer manager, Joey facilitates and manages volunteers who wish to serve the Mission through meal service, giveaways, and special events. The Mission served 18,000 people in 2016.
The panel discussion will take place Oct. 18 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at The Centre, 20880 Centre Pointe Pkwy., Santa Clarita
