Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies checked up on more than 200 probationers Saturday to make sure they were living where they said they lived.

The station’s Career Offenders, Robbery, Burglary, Assault team — aka COBRA Unit — along with the Crime Prevention Unit, assembled 10 teams to visit 239 listed addresses within the SCV.

The operation was conducted to assist the probation department with identifying probationers in violation. No arrests were made.

“(The) operation did not cover any searches or compliance checks. It was strictly a verification process,” said SCV Sheriff’s Station Lt. Ignacio Somoano. “Usually, people who don’t stay at the address that they’ve given the court are doing so because they are still engaging in criminal activity.”

Thirty-two locations will be investigated further for probation violations, according to SCV Sheriff’s Station spokeswoman Shirley Miller.

The last compliance check on probationers where deputies searched for illegal materials was conducted nearly a year ago, in June 2017, Somoano said. During some of the compliance checks, the probationer was not living at his listed address.

Final numbers from the operation include 150 addresses verified, 56 visits with no answer, and 1 probationer who was reportedly deported.

One deputy was treated for a bite on his left elbow after a large mixed-breed dog got loose at one of the residences, Miller said. Other than that, no other injuries were reported, she said.
