The Santa Clarita Blue Heat FC have announced the addition of Taylor Ramirez, Raquel Abrile and Amarelis De Mera to the 2012 squad.
In the player pool for the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team, Taylor Ramirez is a central defender with the University of North Carolina, seeing action in 12 games and scoring one goal during her first season with the Tar Heels. A Southern California native Ramirez was selected for the U-18 National Team camp in 2011, named the Empire League Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010 and presented the Scholar Athlete Award upon graduation from Katella High School.
Brazilian defender Raquel Abrile was a two-year starter from 2009-2010 with Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) in Harrogate, Tennessee, until her graduation. Abrile was named to the NSCAA All-Region First Team in 2010 (becoming eligible for the All-American ballot), the All South Atlantic Conference in 2009 and 2010, and named LMU’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2009/10.
A pioneer in Panamanian women’s soccer, Amarelis De Mera is excited to join the Blue Heat for her inaugural season in the W-League. A forward with the Panamanian National Team, De Mera competed in the 2003 and 2007 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Tournaments as well as the 2002, 2003 and 2006 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying teams. De Mera plays professionally with the Cosmos de la Chorrera in Panamá.
“I am honored that each of these talented women have agreed to play this season with the Blue Heat,” said General Manager Carlos Marroquin. “We expect some really great things from this team and are looking forward to our first game on May 20.”
