[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a report of a suspicious death on the 31900 block of Emerald Lane in Castaic Friday morning, officials said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are en route, according to Sheriff’s Station officials. The call reportedly came in at 9:15 a.m. Friday.
The victim appears to be a resident of the home.
Sheriff’s Station officials have one person of interest in custody and they are investigating her potential involvement in the death, officials said. She has not been named as a suspect at this time.
Neighbors in the Stonegate community were surprised by news of the death in the quiet Castaic neighborhood.
One neighbor saw a woman who lived in the home on Emerald Lane taken into handcuffs by deputies around 11 a.m.
Ruth Seeder, a 17-year resident of the neighborhood said it’s “very unusual” for a suspicious death to happen in the neighborhood.
“I walk around here at night all the time,” she said. “We all kind of look out for one another.”
Seeder said a younger woman and an older man lived in the house, and the woman was frequently seen walking her dog.
One neighbor said a woman lived in the home with her father. Sheriff’s Department officials said they could not confirm any details of the victim or the person of interest.
However, neighbors reported that one of the home’s residents was taken away in handcuffs around 11 a.m.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
