I’m not going to lie – this week I’m stuck. I have thrown around a lot of possibilities in my head for the letter U, since I knew it was coming as I embarked upon this journey of the ABCs of the SCV.
A few things came to mind, with “undetected” or “undiscovered” rising to the top, but then I realized I didn’t know if I could really share a great undiscovered or undetected or unknown aspect of the Santa Clarita Valley – not really.
I also thought of “underground,” but while I’m sure there are various underground scenes that exist in the valley, I am not privy to any of them. Then I thought about that a bit more literally, like what is underground in the Santa Clarita Valley – as in, what is our history? What would a paleontologist find? But I realized that would involve a lot more research than I presently have time to perform, so “underground” doesn’t really work, either. What else?
Well, there’s “uncover,” and maybe I could tell you things you should uncover (i.e., discover) in the SCV, or things that could be considered “ultra” – but ultra what? Another suggestion I received was “uber-awesome,” which could be kind of fun.
In the end, none of these possibilities jumped out at me, and I found myself sitting here going, “Um…,” wondering if I get a pass for “U” or if I would find myself circling back to it next week.
I’d love to think that over the next week, I could do the research and find out what lies beneath in the SCV. What is underground? What is our ancient history?
Or perhaps, I would be able to spend some time discovering the undiscovered or hearing from what you think the “hidden” gems of the SCV are. Maybe.
Or better yet, maybe U is for Unsung Heroes! Yes, that’s it. I’ve gone from “Umn” to Unsung Heroes. I like that a lot, but I certainly cannot write that column all by myself.
I love the idea of featuring some Unsung Heroes of the Santa Clarita Valley, but to do so properly, I need help. It can’t just be up to me. I would love to hear from all of you and know if there is someone in the community whom you consider an unsung hero.
Perhaps a neighbor who is always lending a helping hand or picking up trash, or a friend who volunteers tirelessly or a nurse or other healthcare worker who always shows you extra care, or teachers who continually goes above and beyond for their students? Who is an Unsung Hero to you? I want to know.
Share here or pop over to the The Good Long Road on Facebook. Thanks, and I hope you had a happy and safe Fourth of July.
