[KHTS] – The Congressional Art Competition, organized locally by the office of Congressman Buck McKeon, sponsored by KHTS AM-1220 and hosted by FastFrame Valencia, is coming in April.
Every year, high school students from each congressional district across the United States submit two-dimensional artwork to be judged. The winning art piece in each district is then displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for an entire year and the winning artist will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Entries from the 25th District must be submitted by Monday, April 21 to one of McKeon’s local district offices in Santa Clarita or Palmdale. The Simi Valley drop-off location is yet to be announced.
The art pieces will be judged at Fastframe on Wednesday, April 30.
Winners in the past have included Yeon Whan Yoon and Laura Peskay from Hart High School, Marissa Embola from Saugus High School and Tyler Recchia and Lindsey Bos from Valencia High School.
Fastframe Co-owner Randy Burzynski said that they have hosted the competition for at least four years and that he has enjoyed seeing the art pieces that the students come up with.
“We have quite an abundance of talent here in the valley,” he said.
