The Valencia and West Ranch baseball teams are in the semifinals of the Easton Tournament.
Valencia beat Chaminade, 8-4, behind five shutout innings from Connor Chase. AJ Balta was 4-for-4 against Chaminade. The Vikings will play Alemany in the semifinals on Thursday.
West Ranch and Loyola played to a 3-3 tie, but the Wildcats advanced to the semifinals on hits. Casey Gahan and Justin Hovis each had two hits for West Ranch. The Wildcats play Harvard-Westlake in the semis.
Hart beat St. Francis, 9-4, in the Stealth Division. Luke Persico and Baggio Saldivar both tripled for Hart.
The Olympics are coming and Valencia High graduate Mike Day is preparing to make his return in BMX.
Day won a silver medal in the first Olympic BMX event at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. He is one of 10 riders who have selected to compete in the BMX Supercross World Cup in Chula Vista and Norway. The top riders in the Supercross World Cup standings will earn spots on the 2012 men’s and women’s BMX Olympic team that will compete in London over the summer.
In high school golf, the Saugus boys beat Quartz Hill by 61 strokes in a match on Robinson Ranch’s Mountain Course.
Brandon Lewis and Kevin Holzer each shot 3-over 75s to lead Saugus. The Centurions shot 389 as a team.
In high school tennis, the Hart boys beat Lancaster, 10-8, and the Saugus boys beat Crespi, 12-6, in non-league matches.
In hockey, the Kings shut out the Minnesota Wild, 4-0. Jonathan Bernier made 26 saves in goal and Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist.
The Kings won for only the second time in the past seven games.
They have a few days off before playing the Ducks at Staples Center on Saturday night.
