The College of the Canyons Athletics Department has won its first ever Western State Conference Supremacy Award for the collective performance of its sports program during the 2013-14 academic year.
With the award, COC unseated the 14-time, and current defending champions, Ventura College.
In 2013-14 the Cougars took home WSC championships in women’s volleyball, men’s cross country, women’s soccer, men’s track & field, men’s golf, and co-championship in softball.
“It was a historic year for COC Athletics,” said College of the Canyons athletic director, Chuck Lyon. “Congratulations to all of our dedicated coaches and hardworking student-athletes on their continued success.”
The Western State Conference Supremacy Award was established during the 1980-1981 academic year. As part of the award competition, teams earn points throughout the season based on their conference rankings and post-season performances.
In 2013-14 COC achieved the highest overall point total (109), while also garnering the highest women’s sports score in the conference (55).
College of the Canyons is just the ninth school to win the award since its inception.
