[KHTS] – College of the Canyons officials sent out notices about two crimes reported Wednesday around the school’s Valencia campus.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies were notified of the crimes, and detectives are investigating, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

The first crime involved a woman was walking along Rockwell Canyon Road toward CalArts around 4:15 p.m. when a man walking the opposite direction tried to hand her a flyer and she ignored him.

A blue, four-door Nissan Altima with tinted windows then pulled to the curb, and the man grabbed the student in a “bear hug” hold, according to a campus alert sent to College of the Canyons students.

The student kneed the man twice in the groin, and the man then released the student, entered the Nissan and sped away southbound on Rockwell.

The suspect is described as a male black, 5’5”-5’6”, 150-160 pounds with short dark hair, believed to be 25-28 years old, wearing a red T-shirt, black-zippered sweater and had a black backpack on.

A victim reported the crime to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, and it’s being investigated by detectives.

The second crime reportedly happened around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, when a woman was walking toward the college’s South Parking Lot from Aliso Hall.

She passed a man who stopped her and asked if COC was a good school to attend.

Before she could answer, the suspect then asked her if she’d be interested in taking pornographic pictures.

The student told him no and started walking to her car, the release stated.

The man followed her for a bit until she stopped to let him pass.

The man passed her, but then double-backed and got behind her again. At that point, he grabbed her buttocks and ran off.

The Campus Safety Department recommends taking the following steps to be pro-active about your safety:

* Don’t walk alone to your car during evening hours.

* Use the free Escort Service. Free rides are available from any location on campus during evening hours on both campuses. Simply flag down one of the escort carts to be driven to your class, or your car.

* Be aware of your surroundings.

* Report anything suspicious immediately by calling Campus Safety at (661) 362-3229, or dialing 7 from any campus phone.

The suspect is described as an Asian male, medium complexion, 5’6” to 5’7” tall, 160-170 pounds with short, dark hair, in his early- to mid-20s.

He was wearing a tan hoodie jacket and blue jeans.

  9. That’s so sad. Yesterday you post an article about how amazing it is to live here and it seems like recently, all we see is bad things happening all over the valley. Stabbings, robberies, pot houses being busted….doesn’t seem like the same safe little valley we moved to 6 years ago. :-(

  10. Javi says:

Another vote for a BIG OL’ can of pepper spray. You could have turned that assault into a comedy really quickly.

  11. Mary Jimenez Mary Jimenez says:

This is sad and scary ive grown up all my life in scv and have seen it grow over the years n now we see more crime it truly isnt what it used to be i no longer feel safe in some areas :-/ COC needs have a full time police presence.

  12. Lots of crime info is just being shared more due to more communication like FB but if you really knew by working in law enforcement or listening to a scanner there is so much more everywhere. You need to be smart & lock cars, travel with a buddy esp at night, etc. don’t leaves purses in shopping carts or flash cell phones & jewelry & be aware of surroundings etc. Fight if they are trying to get you in a car. Report unusual people & circumstances asap. Scv is still very safe compared to most of LA.

  13. The security at coc is a joke they just sit on their lazy asses in the golf carts cruising around in the back of campus then give some tickets. They don’t care about the student body’s safety. And I’ve rarely ever seen cops in the coc area. I think maybe once or twice I’ve seen one on Rockwell over the past three years

  14. http://www.elegantdefense.com for pepperspray, stun guns and other personal protection items! Stay safe SCV!

  15. No crimes where I live in green valley, except for idiot av drivers coming through causing accidents or near accidents.

  16. Jody says:

BUY A STUNGUN AND HAVE IT IN YOUR HAND INSIDE YOUR BAG WHILE WALKING ALONE. BE 100% AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. DO NOT WALK AND TEXT OR WALK AND LISTEN TO YOUR IPOD. BUY AND READ “STRONG ON DEFENSE”.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE PARANOID. IT MEANS YOU ARE SMART AND A ‘HARD TARGET’ WHICH THUGS WILL PROBABLY AVOID FOR A SOFTER ONE.

  17. Collin Riley Collin Riley says:

A suspecting older woman followed me around campus continually asking me if I wanted candy… Not safe with all these cougars around!
