SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Four members of the College of the Canyons women’s volleyball program signed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, with sophomores Serena LeDuff, Kaitlyn Reiner, Keirstyn Anderson and Lauren Underwood each receiving scholarships to continue their playing careers at four-years schools.
LeDuff and Reiner are both headed to Southern Arkansas University. Anderson will play at Metropolitan State University of Denver and Underwood heads to Newberry College.
All three institutions compete at the NCAA Division II level.
“This has been an amazing group. From their first days in the program, it was obvious they brought a focus and level of determination that would set them apart,” said COC women’s volleyball head coach Lisa Hooper. “Not only are they talented on the court but they’re excellent students, and their performance in both arenas made them particularly attractive to university coaches.”
“I wish them the best of luck at the next level,” added Hooper, “and expect them all to be integral parts of their programs’ success.”
LeDuff, a two-time Western State Conference (WSC) Player of the Year Honoree who was also named to the 2014 All-State Team, played a pivotal role for the Cougars last season.
The sophomore tri-captain played in all 25 games for the Cougars, appearing in 87 of 90 sets, while leading the team in kills (343), points (389), service aces (39), total attacks (918), kills per set (3.94) and points per set (4.5) from the outside hitter position.
She also ranked second on the team with 304 digs, while her 343 kills were also ranked 11th in the state.
Fellow sophomore tri-captains Reiner and Anderson also received First Team All-Conference honors in 2014, while Underwood was named All-Conference Second Team.
Reiner tallied 156 kills and 71 digs on the season, to go along with 24 service aces and 60 total blocks over 24 matches as a middle blocker.
Anderson, the team’s libero, also had a strong season, leading the Cougars with 361 digs for an average of 4.25 per set.
Underwood was also a top scorer for the Cougars in 2014, registering 220 points on 175 kills, 68 digs, 33 aces and 23 total blocks as an outside hitter.
The COC women’s volleyball team finished the 2014 season with a 21-4 record, while going undefeated in conference play to clinch the Cougars’ second consecutive WSC, South championship.
