College of the Canyons men’s soccer scored a pair of first half goals then played a scoreless final 45 minutes to edge host West Hills Lemoore on Friday, Sept. 12.
Canyons (2-1-1) claimed its first road win of the season, using the opportunity to move back into the win column after first playing to a draw and then suffering a loss in its last two outings.
The Cougars’ attack was aided by the play of Ike D’Silva, who was involved in both scoring plays.
COC needed just two minutes to get on the board with the team’s first goal coming from Lincoln Fritz, on an assist from D’Silva. The score was Fritz’ first of the season.
Lemoore (1-6-1) knotted things up at 1-1 in the 14th minute when Luis Beltran was able to send one past COC goalkeeper Jonathan Mazon.
Mazon (2-0-1) recorded a save and eventually earned the win when his side retook the lead later in the half.
The COC go-ahead goal came from D’Silva, who took a touch from Joshua Moran and moved the Cougars ahead at 2-1 in the 21st minute.
David Zendejas started the second half in net and had a key save to help preserve the COC victory.
Canyons continues non-conference play with the second of four straight road games on Tuesday, Sept. 16, with a trip to Taft College (3-2). That match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
