The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger on Tuesday morning to offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension and/or conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting of an off-duty sheriff’s deputy Monday night in Alhambra.
The Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs has also offered a $50,000 reward, for a total reward of $100,000.
UPDATE: Tuesday at approximately 10:40 a.m., Long Beach PD observed a vehicle in the 2400 block of Granada Avenue in Long Beach, matching the description of the suspect believed responsible for the LASD off-duty deputy shooting in Alhambra. Officers detained occupant of the vehicle and he is being held by LASD as a person of interest.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. Monday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators responded to the Jack in the Box at Valley Boulevard and Fremont Avenue to assist the Alhambra Police Department with an investigation of the shooting of an off-duty sheriff’s deputy.
The unidentified deputy is a 13-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and was in civilian clothing at the time of the shooting.
According to reports, the suspect came up behind the deputy and shot him once in the back of the head before leaving the scene. The deputy was then rushed to Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center where he is currently in critical condition.
The suspect is described as a white male adult, 20-30 years old, 5’ 09″-5’ 11″, wearing a burgundy short-sleeved button-down shirt, slim blue jeans, a light fedora hat, and sunglasses, and was armed with a handgun.
The suspect vehicle is described as a white four-door, 2010-2014 Kia Sorrento SUV with paper plates.
Investigators believe the suspect changed his clothing shortly after the incident and is now wearing a black t-shirt and black jeans. The suspect left the area in the same vehicle as described above.
