Here are some tips to help your house become less attractive to thieves.
Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave the house or go to bed. Even if it is for a short time, lock your doors.
Leave lights on when you go out. If you are going to be away for a length of time, connect some lamps to automatic timers to turn them on in the evening and off during the day.
Keep your garage door closed and locked.
Don’t allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers or flyers build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
Arrange for your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.

More coverage out here. We feel like the stepchild!
Oh my goodness, what is going on with people?
I just left the Target on Golden Valley and it was a scary crowd of customers. Makes me ? Going there later at night.
Wow, isnt that a pretty good neighborhood?
Like what kind of people?
No value or respect for people and property now days.
So glad I moved away from the evolving crapshoot that scv is becoming.

Wow, sounds like SCV is going downhill! I thought the crime was very low in that area! Wrong!!!
Scv isn’t what it used to be 15 years ago and that’s sad :(
Canyon country isn’t all SCV!!! There is crime everywhere.
Location location location!
There is a little apartment complex on the street where the restaurant was right before sand canyon was it there??
So glad I moved
I think they are talking about the apts by yoshinoya maybe?? Moving soon im tired of this area – all these cholos and drugged up people walking around like zombies!
Pick up the homeless on drugs and alcohol, and gather up the gang members in apts on jakes way. Pick the illegals and by the way do the same in old newhall and Valencia. That’s the problem. Also stop bussing in kids to our high schools. Ck out golden valley for example. If they were going to Valencia high or the one in Stevenson ranch, it would stop!! Who’s paying off our sheriffs to ignore all these easy to see problems. I’m a 47 yr resident so I see the difference and it’s sad and dangerous!
I live in Fair Oaks Ranch / Canyon Country. My house was also broken into and my dad’s guns were stolen. I live next to Dove Willow. So 2 days ago, i bought another handgun, just in case. It’s a crazy world out here now. I miss when SCV use to be so nice and calm.
The 1800 block is by the American beauty townhouses near the Elks lodge off of Sierra..
