Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies swiftly ID’d and arrested an arson suspect after viewing surveillance footage of fires near Newhall businesses last weekend, station officials said Friday.
Here’s more of the story from the station’s social media:
“On the evening of Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, there were four suspected arson fires lit to trash cans/dumpsters in the Newhall area.
“All of the victims included businesses located along Newhall Avenue.
“Two of the businesses targeted had security camera systems that captured video of the suspect as he set the fires. Patrol deputies viewed the surveillance video and immediately recognized the arsonist as a local transient, from previous field contacts.
“On Dec. 27, 2018, four days after the crimes were committed, deputies located and arrested the suspect.
“The suspect, Jorge Rivera-Flores, 30, was charged with four counts of arson and is in custody with a bail of $50,000.
“The case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for filing considerations.”
