Walt Disney Co. will remodel its Disney Store in the Westfield Valencia Town Center – and possibly move it to a different location within the mall – in an effort to provide what the company is calling “the best 30 minutes of a child’s day.”

The company made the announcement Tuesday at a trade show in New York, where it unveiled its new, interactive store design aesthetic. The Santa Clarita location is one of eight stores across the country that will receive the remodeling job this year, along with five brand-new U.S. stores. Worldwide, 12 countries will see the new design including new stores in Milan, Italy, and Shanghai, China.

“We take great pride in bringing the magic of Disney to families around the world through Disney Store experiences,” said Jim Fielding, president of Disney Stores Worldwide. “As we reflect on 25 years of accomplishments, we also look forward to all of the new and exciting places Disney Store will go in the future.”

The first Disney Store opened in 1987 in the Glendale Galleria. That store is one of four in California that will see the new design; the other two are at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa and the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara.

Also Tuesday, Disney announced the launch of DisneyBaby.com, a new website offering merchandise and providing a social media platform for parents. Disney ventured into the baby-product market about a year ago.
