[KHTS] – Soroptimist International of the Americas Camino Real Region will install Santa Clarita Valley resident Dora Zavala as its new governor on Saturday during ceremonies at its 2014 Spring Conference to be held in Valencia.
Zavala, the current governor-elect, is a buyer for Vallarta Supermarkets and a Mary Kay Sales Director.
“I love my life and where I live,” Zavala said. “I am committed to serving in a capacity that furthers my passion and gives back to the community.”
Zavala will serve two years in the leadership position which oversees 25 clubs in the region which spans from Santa Barbara to Manhattan Beach and includes more than 1,000 club members in four districts.
Her theme will be “empowering women and girls to live their dreams to success by participating in collaboration, connection, compassion, communication, consistency and celebration through membership and programs.”
Zavala said she is looking forward to serving as the region governor.
“I love being a Soroptimist and I am committed to the vision and the growth of Soroptimist International,” she said. “I have good ‘people and negotiating skills’ that I believe are qualities of a leader… that are necessary for the betterment of an organization. I know how to sell ideas that will gain buy-in for everyone’s benefit. My professional and nonprofit experience has provided me with the ability to listen and work well with a diverse group of employers, employees and volunteers. I believe in true renaissance where new ideas are welcomed and everyone has a serve regardless of how they show up. I love to be part of something bigger and enjoy fundraising. I am energetic, enthusiastic, and love being a catalyst that connects people and vision. It’s a privilege for me to belong to an organization that opens the doors to meet so many amazing women who together are making a difference for women and girls not just locally but around the world.”
Zavala is an active member of the Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley club, which is celebrating its seventh anniversary. The club has nearly 80 members with a focus based on women’s health, women in crisis and celebrating women.
Soroptimist means “Best for Women.” Soroptimist International is in 120 countries and territories and has more than 80,000 members. It is a global volunteer organization of business and professional women working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
Zavala is the mother of two daughters, Nicole and Noelle, and the grandmother of Makayla, 16 months old.
