The College of the Canyons Theatre Department will present the timeless vampire tale “Dracula” on the main stage at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center for a limited engagement, Oct. 9 through Oct. 18.
The play, written by Steven Dietz, is an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Victorian Gothic novel “Dracula” written in 1897.
The suspenseful story is based on the classic legend of the Transylvanian vampire, Dracula. The lead characters in the play work to piece together Dracula’s identity and make a valiant attempt to stop him from taking new victims.
The COC theatre department’s production of Dracula will be directed by stage veteran Randee Trabitz.
The cast and crew of the production are comprised solely of COC theatre students.
“The cultural resurgence of interest in the Gothic period in this country via contemporary Goth fashion and music seems, to me, to express the unbridled desires that Bram Stoker’s Victorians are struggling to repress,” said Trabitz. “Dracula, an insidious and complicated monster preys on the vulnerable, but also defines how desire makes each of us vulnerable.”
Performances of the COC theatre department’s production of “Dracula” will take place at 8 p.m. Oct. 9, 10, 16 and 18. Matinee performances will run at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 and Oct. 18.
General admission tickets are $10. Students and seniors are $5.
