[Providence] – With a shared tradition of quality health care that spans generations, two San Fernando Valley healthcare leaders have formed an affiliation, effective July 1 and dedicated to improving coordinated care for tens of thousands of patients throughout the Greater Valley Area.
Providence Health & Services, Southern California, Facey Medical Foundation and Facey Medical Group are joining forces to share resources and expertise, positioning both organizations to meet the future needs of the communities they long have served. The goal is to prepare for changes in the national healthcare landscape while making quality health care more accessible, affordable and efficient.
“The national spotlight is on health care – how it is delivered and how quality and patient satisfaction can be improved,” said Michael Hunn, chief executive of Providence Southern California. “For Providence Southern California there is no better way to meet these challenges than by teaming with a top physician organization like Facey to expand our brands of quality and compassionate care in the communities we both serve.
“For a half-century, Facey and Providence have shared the same dedication to excellence, innovation and a team approach to providing the best that health care can offer. This relationship formalizes that bond and positions both our organizations to better serve our patients and advance the continuum of care.”
The affiliation will allow Providence and Facey to serve more patients and to develop an integrated health system that shares best practices, coordinates care and strives for a higher level of efficiency.
The vision is for combined resources to create a strong foundation as Providence and Facey move forward to transform the delivery of clinical care to establish a seamless, coordinated care system. Both organizations are on strong financial footing and carry enduring reputations for excellence and quality.
Bill Gil, chief executive officer of the Facey Medical Foundation, will bring his leadership skills to help grow the Facey Medical Foundation and the Providence Medical Institute, a successful and well-regarded physician foundation primarily serving the South Bay and Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers in Torrance and San Pedro. This organization includes the Providence Medical Group, Axminster Medical Group and the Affiliates in Medical Specialties group.
“Facey has been the provider of choice for the communities we serve for more than 60 years,” Gil said. “Our commitment to clinical excellence, led by our dedicated team of physicians and support staff, will continue and expand through our new strategic affiliation with Providence.
“Together, Providence and Facey will plan for a future of growth in serving more patients and expanding into new communities with programs that span the continuum of care. Our strengths are firmly rooted in our physicians and our people. Our common core strategies will continue to be serving our patients and furthering the Providence Mission of reaching out to the most vulnerable.”
Formally established 60 years ago in Mission Hills, Facey has formed a strong bond with nearby Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. Facey has, over the years, expanded throughout the Valley and into the Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys and recently to Simi Valley.
The roots go back further when Dr. Frederick Facey opened his one-man practice in 1923, laying the groundwork for today’s Facey Foundation/Facey Medical Group, now with 160 physicians and 14 nurse practitioners serving more than 170,000 patients throughout northern Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Dr. Facey’s storefront practice expanded over the decades to a network of 13 locations that include primary care, urgent care and specialty clinics. Today, Facey Medical Foundation employs approximately 1,100 staff members; Facey Medical Group employs the physicians, representing more than 20 specialties.
Providence Holy Cross was founded in 1961 as Holy Cross Hospital. The hospital joined Providence Health & Services in 1996 and now is one of five Providence medical centers in Southern California, including two other valley hospitals: Providence Tarzana Medical Center and Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Providence employs more than 10,300 in Southern California.
“Both Facey and Providence share the same goals of delivering patient-centered care by embracing useful technology, operating efficiently and hiring compassionate, clinically excellent physicians and allied health professionals,” said Fredrick Russo, M.D., who will continue to serve in his role as president and chief executive officer of Facey Medical Group. “Facey physicians are looking forward to this new venture, an affiliation with a top healthcare system that believes as Facey does in investing in the health of the community.”
Facey Medical Foundation will continue to operate as a separate foundation model within Providence, and continue to provide management and support services to Facey Medical Group.
