David Poole
As a firm specializing in business law, Poole & Shaffery, LLP, is intimately acquainted with the various changes in regulations and laws faced by California businesses every year. With its sixth annual Employment Law Update luncheon, the firm is focused on helping businesses avoid the financial catastrophes that can come with being out of compliance with state and federal laws.
The 2018 Employment Law Update is scheduled 11:45 a.m. Feb. 20 in the grand ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, located at 24500 Town Center Drive in Valencia.
The event is hosted by the Valley Industry Association and replaces the organization’s normal monthly luncheon. This event is expected to sell out, and attendees are encouraged to register early by visiting www.employmentlawrsvp.com. Tickets are $50 if reserved by Feb. 15.
The update will be presented by firm partners David Poole and Brian Koegle.
“It’s not hyperbole: Falling out of compliance with employment-related laws can result in catastrophic results for businesses. Employment law litigation can prove costly and lengthy, and can be absolutely devastating to a business’ long-term success and viability,” Koegle said. “Very common employment law-related lawsuits include wage and hour disputes, wrongful termination, discrimination, and harassment. This luncheon provides businesses the information they need to ensure they’re in compliance.”
Discussion topics for this year’s luncheon will include:
• Minimum wage and exempt salary updates
• Marijuana use in the workplace
• Equal pay laws, including pre-employment screenings
• Statewide “ban the box” rules
• Expansion of CFRA leaves of absence (even for smaller employers, 20+)
• Preview of new laws for 2018
There will also be a question-and-answer session following the main presentation.
“California has some of the nation’s strictest business regulations, and the laws are changing every year,” Koegle said. “Businesses – particularly the many small businesses in Santa Clarita Valley – simply cannot afford to ignore changes, especially when violations can result in thousands of dollars in fines. This luncheon helps business owners navigate complicated issues.”
