The College of the Canyons Institute for Culinary Education, aka iCuE, will offer a free pasta bar to students on Thursday, Feb. 7 to help them fuel up for the spring semester.
A free pasta lunch will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the iCuE, located at the Valencia campus.
The free student lunch meal is a result of the iCuE’s commitment to the United Nations’ Goal 2: Zero Hunger campaign, which aims to end hunger and all forms of malnutrition by 2030.
“We want to do our part, no matter how small, to help end hunger,” said Cindy Schwanke, chair of the college’s culinary arts and wine studies program. “We look forward to continuing (to find) ways to help address this very serious issue that affects many college students.”
To help students dealing with food insecurity, the college created the Food for Thought Food Pantry two years ago. The on-campus pantry is located in the Student Health and Wellness Center and gives students access to food, hygiene products, clothing, and toiletries in a grocery store-like setting.
To receive the free meal, students must provide COC student identification.
The UN’s Goal 2: Zero Hunger campaign is part of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that was adopted by world leaders at the historic September 2015 UN Summit.
