Canyon’s Drew Wolitarsky set the state record for receiving yards with style.

He caught nine passes for 149 yards and four touchdowns in Canyon’s 49-7 win over Golden Valley.

Wolitarsky broke the state record set by Steve Smith, now a receiver with the St. Louis Rams who played high school football at Taft in Woodland Hills.

Wolitarsky has 4,585 receiving yards in his career at Canyon. He also has 240 catches, 31 short of Smith’s state record in that category.

In other Foothill League games, Hart, the No. 1 team in the Southern Section Northern Division, beat West Ranch, 49-6, in a game heard live on AM 1220, KHTS.

Hart quarterback Brady White had a near-perfect night. He completed 16-of-17 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 15 passes in a row at one point in the game.

The Valencia football team, ranked No. 6 in the Southern Section Northern Division, shut out Saugus, 38-0.

Receiver Nick Jones caught nine passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns.

The Trinity football team lost to Mojave, 29-20, and lost for only the second time this season. Trinity quarterback Dakota Prochnow threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 97 yards in the loss.

In college football, College of the Canyons won a shootout, 62-61 in double overtime, against Antelope Valley College.

COC running back Andre Davis scored three touchdowns, including the game-winner in the second overtime.

The UCLA football team, ranked No. 25 in the nation, lost to Cal, 43-17, and dropped to 1-2 against Pac-12 opponents.

The Bruins committed six turnovers and Cal snapped a three-game losing streak.

Valencia High graduate Steven Manfro returned only one punt for 12 yards for UCLA.

In the NFL, Valencia High graduate Shane Vereen scored a touchdown for the Patriots in New England’s 31-21 win over the Denver Broncos. It was Vereen’s first touchdown of the season and the second of his NFL career.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Golden State Warriors, 110-83, in their preseason opener. Kobe Bryant, Metta World Peace and Jordan Hill each scored 10 points for the Lakers.
