Santa Clarita community members can now dispose of used or unwanted paint for free at three local drop-off sites, including Sherwin-Williams, Vista Paint and Dunn Edwards.

As of October 19, 2012, California passed new legislation requiring the paint industry to develop a sustainable solution to manage post-consumer paint.  Under the new program, the paint industry has made paint recycling more convenient by setting up hundreds of drop-off locations throughout the state where residents can bring leftover paint.

“Proper use and disposal of hazardous materials is critical to the health of our environment. Paint is something that is commonly used in homes, but many people don’t know how to dispose of it properly,” commented Mayor Frank Ferry.  “With the addition of these drop-off locations, community members can now safely dispose of unwanted paint for free.”

In addition to paint drop-off sites, College of the Canyons will host a free collection event for residents to dispose of paint and other hazardous materials on Saturday, November 10, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the South Parking Lot.
