California Institute of the Arts is pleased to announce the spring 2013 events of The Wild Beast Concert Series hosted by the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts. In April, two free concerts will feature world-class guest performers, faculty, alumni and students representing the Institute’s acclaimed Jazz and World Music Programs. On April 13, the incendiary sounds of the CalArts Jazz Big Band will rock the Wild Beast. A night of African Dancing and Drumming on April 27 will highlight one of the most exciting programs of CalArts’ annual World Music Festival.
The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts offers rigorous training in an unrivaled variety of musical styles and cultures—and The Wild Beast Concert Series offers audiences the opportunity to experience the Institute’s vibrant musical culture.
Designed by Hodgetts + Fung, The Wild Beast music pavilion has been dubbed a “mini Hollywood Bowl” for its delightful outdoor amphitheater setting. With open lawn seating, families are welcome and picnics encouraged at Valencia’s most intimate concert venue.
Seating is on the open lawn in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard. Bench seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The environment and content of The Wild Beast Concert Series is safe and appropriate for family enjoyment. The lawn of The Wild Beast Music Pavilion is a perfect place for a picnic. Come an hour early and grab that prime spot on the lawn. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Please leave the alcohol at home. Open containers are not allowed on the CalArts campus. Dress warmly: Each concert lasts approximately 90 minutes and the evening air may get chilly.
CalArts is located at 24700 McBean Parkway in Valencia. Admission to the concerts and parking are free. For information call 661.253.7816.
