[LASD] – Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are investigating two incidents of assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in a remote area of Gorman on Saturday, July 14, 2012 and Sunday, July 15, 2012. Both incidents involved the same suspect and victim.
The first incident was reported Saturday morning just after 8:00 a.m. Deputies were called to the 47000 block of Old Ridge Route Road, Gorman, to reports that the victim, male white age 46, had been assaulted by his cousin with a handgun. The victim reported that he and his cousin had an argument and the suspect, Joaquin Bin, male white age 45, allegedly pointed a handgun at him and fired at least one shot as the victim fled the residence and hid nearby, ultimately calling the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. Deputies arrested the suspect a short time later.
The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats. He posted bond and was released early this morning. Just before 12:00 p.m. today (07/15/2012), the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a second call to the same location indicating that another incident of assault with a deadly weapon had occurred.
Deputies responded and found that the suspect, Joaquin Bin, reportedly returned to the location and allegedly confronted his cousin with a golf club. A struggle ensued between the two over the golf club and at some point a handgun was obtained by one of them. A struggle ensued over the handgun and during the struggle the gun was discharged at least two times, striking the suspect in the feet. The suspect fled the location and contacted a responding deputy. The suspect was treated at the scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department and was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A handgun was recovered.
After medical treatment, the same suspect, Joaquin Bin, will be booked on additional new charges of assault with a deadly weapon and witness intimidation. Deputies are seeking bail enhancements at this time. The investigations are ongoing.
